Facilities & Services
The International School of Ulaanbaatar is situated in a beautiful purpose-built campus located on the south side of Ulaanbaatar city, close to the Tuul River and the Bogd Khan mountains.
Our two-storey school buildings have dedicated spaces for both our primary and secondary schools, including a shared cafeteria, nurse’s clinic, theatre and swimming pool. In addition to its many classrooms, our primary school has a makers’ space, a dedicated library, a gymnasium and its own art and music facilities. And our secondary school has Design Technology facilities for both food and materials, a library, a large gymnasium with a rock-climbing wall, wet- and dry- science laboratories, a visual arts studio and performing arts spaces.
Creative Arts
The well-equipped classrooms provided for students studying Art and Design enable us to deliver diverse Creative Arts opportunities. A range of tools are available including laser cutter, computers, a fully-equipped machine workshop and specialized arts resources.
Performing Arts
Our specialist rooms in the Performing Arts area include a black box, theatre, music classrooms and several practice rooms. The Co-curricular Activities programme offers many opportunities for students to participate in music and drama productions, among other performance pursuits.
Science Laboratories
There are four purpose-built science laboratories in our secondary school, including labs dedicated to Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Each is fitted with discipline-specific equipment, suitable for investigations through the IB Diploma.
Theatre
The Theatre, with its contemporary design structure and 450 seats, is an ideal setting for whole school productions such as dramatic and musical performances, graduations and other special events like lectures and conferences. Our theatre stage with its side wings, backstage, unique lighting system, data show screen and digital sound system, makes it a very adaptable and often used facility for large scale performances.
Libraries
The ISU Library Resource Centers comprise a comprehensive international collection of more than 35,000 fiction and non-fiction resources including books, reference texts, periodicals and online resources. A growing collection of foreign language titles include resources in Mongolian, Korean, Japanese, French, German, and Spanish. As well, students and faculty may borrow laptops, iPads, and e-readers for short-term use.
Swimming Pool
A seven-lane, 25-meter swimming pool is available to students during their Physical Education (PE) classes. Students on our swim team, use the pool for training after school and during meets hosted on some Saturdays. Students wanting extra lessons beyond the PE classes can receive lessons after school. The pool is covered, so sunscreen is not needed.
Gymnasiums
There are two air-conditioned gymnasiums with electronic scoreboards in the secondary building. In addition to sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis, a climbing wall is available to students. Students use the gymnasiums for sports during their PE classes, after school for clubs and teams, and on weekends during scheduled games.
Fitness Centre
The Fitness Centre in the secondary school building includes state-of-the-art weight and aerobic machines. It is available to Secondary School students and employees during the posted hours.
Soccer Field
Three soccer fields with lush green grass and fitted with goal posts are used for PE classes, clubs and teams after school, and frequently on weekends to host tournaments. The Soccer fields allows students to develop an appreciation for playing sports and staying fit.
Playground
A large field and large playground equipped with fine white sand, swing sets, monkey bars and a jungle gym allow students to interact with nature and the outdoors, engage in imaginary play, and develop physical strength and social skills.
Track
A 400-meter synthetic Track with four-lanes, utilized by students during PE classes. It include a sand pit for the long jump and triple jump.
Coffee House
Our Coffee House is open to parents, guests as well as students and staff. It serves sandwiches, cookies, pastries and hot and cold snacks - as well as hot drinks, soft drinks and smoothies. It is open from Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm.
Cafeteria
The Cafeteria opens at 7:30am so that students in grades 6 and above can buy breakfast before classes begin at 8:00am. Instead of cash, the ISU ID card is used for purchases. Healthy choices are made by choosing items such as salad, soup, sandwiches, fruit, and yogurt.
