YACs stands for Young Adventures Club and our main goal is to conserve nature and raise awareness of pollution in Mongolia. At ISU there are two YACs groups. Junior YACs is open to students from grade 6 to 8 and focuses on introducing students to basic outdoor skills and a variety of outdoors activities that are available. The programme is led by ISU teachers in Collaboration with Mr. Chris Cartwright of the Mongolian Institute of Outdoor learning (www.miol.org).
Senior YACs is for students in Grades 9 to 12 and aims to develop the students’ skills and develop greater independence in the outdoors. The senior YACs will be aiming to achieve the John Muir Explorer Award (JMA) this year, which is an internationally recognised award from the John Muir trust (http://www.jmt.org/home.asp). The students are currently involved in a trail cleaning and signage project in the Bogd Khan Mountains and in June will embark on a 6-day student-led expedition.
